Police in Almaty have launched an investigation after reports of an unknown man attacking a child. The incident occurred near Atakent Park, where, according to the Ministry of Defense, nearby military personnel helped prevent dangerous consequences, reports infohub.kz.
Later, on the social network Threads, a woman who introduced herself as the mother of the injured boy revealed the circumstances of the incident. According to her, the attacker targeted children who were at a training session. "He shouted that he hates Kazakhs, threatened to slit the children's throats. He first tried to hit a girl, but she managed to dodge. Then he punched my 10-year-old son in the eye. The child has a bruise under his eye. The children were scared and managed to run away," she wrote.
The woman confirmed that military personnel happened to be nearby. They chased down and detained the suspect, called 102, and handed him over to police officers. "Today my child was hurt. Tomorrow it could be anyone else's. Fortunately, the children managed to run away. It's terrifying to think how it could have ended," she added.
A NUR.KZ correspondent was told by the press service of the Almaty Police Department that the suspect was detained and taken to the police. "An investigation is being conducted by the Bostandyk District Police Department into the use of physical force against a minor in the park. A legal assessment will be made and a procedural decision will be taken in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan," police said.
Police are currently establishing the circumstances of the incident.
