Police in Almaty are investigating an incident near the Atakent exhibition complex, where an unknown man attacked a group of children. According to available information, the attacker struck a 10-year-old boy in the face and threatened the children with violence. Law enforcement agencies have launched a pre-trial investigation, reports infohub.kz.
As the victim's mother recounted, the man first tried to hit a girl, but she managed to dodge. He then punched her 10-year-old son in the eye. The child sustained injuries, and a bruise formed under his eye.
According to the woman, by a stroke of luck, servicemen from the Peacekeeping Training Center of the Ministry of Defense were nearby. They promptly detained the man, called the police, and handed him over to the arriving officers.
The servicemen reported that during the arrest, the man shouted that he hated Kazakhs, and then headed towards the children, threatening to "slit their throats."
The victim's parents filed a police report, and the child's injuries were documented.
The suspect was detained and taken to the police station. Currently, all circumstances of the incident are being established.
"A legal assessment will certainly be made and a procedural decision will be taken in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the police summarized.
