A resident of Atyrau has accused staff at a private daycare center of mistreating her one-year-old son, reports infohub.kz.
According to the woman, the reason for the check was injuries she noticed on the child's body after he attended the daycare. The family then asked for surveillance camera footage.
The mother claims the video shows caregivers handling the child roughly: pulling his arms, throwing him on the floor, leaving him unattended among other children, and allegedly using physical force. She also said her son regularly came home hungry, crying, and looking frightened.
The woman said the child had swelling under his armpit, bite marks, scratches on his ear, and other injuries.
Police have opened a criminal case. In response to a request from Kursiv, the regional police department said an investigation has been launched.
"A criminal case has been opened under the article 'Failure to fulfill duties of raising a minor.' A set of investigative measures is currently underway. All persons involved in this offense have been brought to the police department," the Atyrau regional police department reported.
Police added that no further information would be disclosed in the interests of the investigation.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that an unknown man punched a child in the face near Atakent Park in Almaty. The attacker was detained by officers from the Ministry of Defense's Peacekeeping Operations Center who were nearby and handed over to police.
