In the Atyrau region, the driver responsible for a road accident that killed three people in August 2023 has finally received a prison sentence, reports infohub.kz.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, on August 21, 2023, on the Atyrau-Astrakhan highway, the driver caused a crash that left three dead and several others injured.
After the investigation, the case was sent to court in 2024. However, court rulings were repeatedly reviewed and overturned by higher instances, delaying punishment for the offender.
Following a new hearing on February 23, 2026, state prosecutors secured a conviction: the driver was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 345 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Code — violating traffic rules resulting in the negligent death of three or more people. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison and banned from driving for 7 years.
On June 4, 2026, the Criminal Appellate Board of the Atyrau Regional Court upheld the verdict, and it entered into force.
