Despite a fire at its treatment facilities, the Atyrau Oil Refinery (ANPZ) continues to operate normally, according to infohub.kz.
The incident occurred on August 25 at 12:35. The source of the fire is in the settler of the closed-type mechanical treatment facilities (MOC), where oil sludge is burning inside the unit.
The press service of ANPZ emphasized that no work was being carried out at the facility at the time of the incident. "Efforts to contain and extinguish the fire are ongoing. There are no casualties. The plant continues to operate normally," the statement said.
Information about the scale of the fire and the causes of the oil sludge ignition is being clarified.
Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the fire on the plant's territory was quickly extinguished. Due to the strategic nature of the facility, rescuers were dispatched to the scene with an elevated response level.
Timeline and details of the firefighting: at 12:55, the first report of smoke was received at the "112" emergency line. An operational headquarters was immediately set up at the plant. About 65 personnel and 19 units of equipment (forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Semser Ort Sondirushi LLP, ATM Airport rescuers, and NCOC) fought the fire. At 13:42, the fire was contained and its spread was stopped.
Currently, the fire has been completely extinguished, and there are no casualties. Specialists have begun investigating the causes of the incident, and the situation is fully under control.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in March 2026, the Atyrau Oil Refinery was fined 520 million tenge for January emissions.
