Other candidates who vied for the post of akim of Atyrau region alongside Bolat Akchulakov have become known, reports infohub.kz.
On the instruction of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Head of the Presidential Administration Roman Sklyar attended a meeting of Atyrau region maslikhat deputies. Sklyar read out the president's letter nominating two candidates: Bolat Akchulakov, chairman of the Kazakhstan Association of Oil and Gas Energy Complex Organizations (KAZENERGY), and Daryn Shamuratov, deputy akim of Atyrau region.
In an open vote, 83 out of 101 deputies cast their ballots for Akchulakov, while 18 voted for Shamuratov. By a presidential decree, Bolat Akchulakov was appointed akim of Atyrau region.
At a meeting with regional activists, the prime minister thanked Serik Shapkenov for his contribution to the region's development over four years of leadership and introduced the new akim. Earlier, it was reported that a meeting of maslikhat deputies would be held on July 17 to give consent for the appointment. Shapkenov was relieved of his post, and Akchulakov took over.
