Three residents of the Atyrau region have had their sentences toughened for attacking police officers after the case was reviewed by the cassation instance, reports the website infohub.kz.
The Prosecutor General's Office reported on its official Telegram channel that earlier the Kyzylkoginsky District Court, in the case of an attack on police officers, sentenced two residents of the region to 4 years of restriction of freedom, and another to 3 years and 6 months of restriction of freedom.
According to the investigation, in the Makat district, a group of men in a state of alcohol intoxication actively resisted police officers who arrived at the scene. During the incident, the attackers kicked the representatives of the authorities and also used a wooden stick and a stone as weapons. As a result, one of the police officers received bodily injuries of moderate severity.
Then the cassation board, having considered the protest of the Deputy Prosecutor General, concluded that the imposed punishment in the form of restriction of freedom is unfair and does not correspond to the gravity of the offense. The cassation court indicated that the actions of the convicts pose an increased public danger, as they grossly violated public order and caused harm to the health of a police officer while he was performing his official duties.
In this regard, the court decisions were changed. Two citizens were sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment each, and the third to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment. The convicts were taken into custody in the courtroom.
