A resident of Atyrau has been sentenced to three years in prison for attacking a temporary detention facility officer. The incident occurred in cell No. 2, where the man had been placed after his arrest. According to the publication "Ak Zhaik," he pushed the officer and headbutted him four times, reports infohub.kz.
During an inspection, two detention facility officers entered the cell to check on the detainee and ensure he had no prohibited items. According to the defendant, the officers also intended to take his clothes. The man refused to hand over his personal belongings, leading to a verbal altercation. He first pushed one of the officers in the chest with both hands, and when they attempted to handcuff him, he continued to resist and headbutted the sergeant four times.
As a result of the attack, the officer sustained a bruise near his left eye and a lacerated wound on his left hand. An examination showed that the injuries did not cause short-term health impairment. In court, the man fully admitted his guilt, explaining his actions as anger over the attempt to handcuff him. He apologized to the victim and asked for a lighter sentence. The officer, in turn, stated that he had no complaints against the defendant.
Previously, the Atyrau resident had been convicted for a conflict related to his wife's debt. The woman, who worked as an administrator at a training center, had taken out a loan of 3 million tenge in her name at her boss's request. The money was intended for the supervisor, but the debt was not repaid on time. The creditor filed a lawsuit, and the wife's accounts were frozen. At the time, she was expecting a child and could not receive her entitled payments.
Later, the boss came to the family's home to arrange a power of attorney and resolve the issue of the frozen accounts. During the conversation, a conflict arose. The man used force against the guest, took the keys to a Toyota Camry from her jacket pocket, and drove off in the car. In the stolen vehicle, he traveled from Atyrau to Aktobe, then headed to Kyzylorda, where he was arrested.
After the car was returned, the victim claimed that more than 6 million tenge in cash had been inside. According to her, part of the money was in the glove compartment, and the rest was in a bag. Since the money was not found in the car, the man was charged with grand theft. However, the court found insufficient evidence that the stated amount was actually in the vehicle. The victim did not report the missing money either immediately after the incident or after the car was returned. She first mentioned the cash more than a month later.
The man was acquitted of the theft charge. For using force, taking the keys, and unlawfully taking the car, he was sentenced to 1.5 years of restricted freedom. By the time of the attack on the detention center officer, this conviction had not yet been expunged. The court found the man guilty of using violence against an employee of an institution ensuring isolation from society and sentenced him to three years in prison. He will serve his sentence in a medium-security facility.
