A 16-year-old schoolboy in Atyrau has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a knife attack on a 13-year-old girl, with shocking confessions heard in court, infohub.kz reports.

The trial of the ninth-grader, who attacked the 13-year-old girl with a knife at school in March, has concluded. The teenager stabbed her six times in the back and neck. The victim was hospitalized in intensive care, and doctors managed to save her life.

The trial revealed that the ninth-grader had been preparing for the attack for several days: he studied similar cases in other countries and even wanted to kill his own family.

"He was interested in foreign citizens who committed terrorist acts in kindergartens, schools, and educational institutions. In addition, the following note was found in his physics notebook: 'Yesterday, unfortunately, I failed. I tried to kill my family, but I couldn't carry out my plan,'" said Judge Zarema Khamidullina.

It is noted that in March, the 16-year-old ninth-grader left his last lesson. He then returned to school, taking two knives, scissors, pliers, and other cutting objects from home. He told the security guard that he had forgotten his glasses and entered the building. There, he attacked the 13-year-old girl, who received six knife wounds to her back and neck. The victim was taken to intensive care and was saved.

It also became known that the teenager had previously complained of bullying, but these facts were not confirmed. In addition, the trial noted that the attacker and his victim did not know each other and had never had conflicts.

The defendant faced life imprisonment, but due to his age, he was sentenced to only 15 years in prison.
