In the Atyrau Region, 89-year-old Adilkhan Sisenov, who accused his younger son of abuse, has suffered a mini-stroke and begun losing his memory. Relatives of the pensioner fear he may not live to see the end of the trial, reports infohub.kz.

Adilkhan Sisenov, from the village of Sagiz in the Kyzylkoga District, stated in June of this year that his son tied him up with tape and held him against his will. According to the pensioner, he managed to escape: at night he climbed out through a window and reached relatives, after which he went to the police.

Adilkhan Sisenov is a home front veteran, has Group III disability, and is registered as an oncology patient. He is the father of eight sons and four daughters, one of whom has died. The pensioner's wife passed away ten years ago.

Adilkhan Sisenov now lives with another son in Sagiz. His granddaughter and legal representative, Saule Adilkhan, spoke about his condition. According to her, after fleeing his son's home, the grandfather was in Atyrau undergoing medical examinations. He previously had an excellent memory, remembered past events well, and often talked about them. But in September he fell seriously ill, and doctors diagnosed a mini-stroke. Now he forgets many things, has begun eating less, and his loved ones are very worried about him.

As the granddaughter noted, doctors recommend showing the pensioner to a neurologist, but the family is still unsure whether he can endure the journey. The grandfather intended to come to court on his own. Relatives hope that after treatment he will feel better and will make every effort to ensure he can attend the hearing in person rather than participate online. He is currently well cared for and under medical supervision.

The criminal case against the son is being heard in the Zhylyoi District Court under Article 109-1, Part 2, Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (battery committed against a person known to the perpetrator to be in a helpless state). Hearings were held on October 15 and 20, with the next scheduled for November 4. Judge Muratkali Iskakov is presiding over the case.

According to Saule Adilkhan, at the first hearing the judge suggested that the parties reconcile through mediation, but the victim's relatives refused. They disagreed because the son does not admit to harming his father. They are also dissatisfied with the results of the forensic examination, which classified the grandfather's injuries as minor, even though there were bruises and signs of beating on his body. At the same time, she said, experts gave a positive assessment of the pensioner's mental state and memory.

The defendant himself has previously denied the charges, claiming that he cared for his father for more than twenty years. His guilt remains to be established by the court. Adilkhan Sisenov is represented by a lawyer. The family intends to seek justice and hopes that the pensioner will be able to participate personally in the further proceedings.

Next year the home front veteran will turn 90. But right now his loved ones are far more concerned about whether he will live to hear the court's decision than about the upcoming birthday.
