Australian police are searching for thieves who stole a large batch of oysters from a farm, reports infohub.kz.
Law enforcement in New South Wales is investigating a brazen theft at an oyster farm near the town of Taree, north of Sydney. The culprits made off with more than 300 bags containing about 400,000 shellfish. The stolen goods are valued at 350,000 Australian dollars, equivalent to 250,000 US dollars.
The incident occurred earlier this year, but the farm owners only reported it to police on August 25. As a result, authorities have appealed to local residents and potential witnesses to provide any information that could help track down the criminals and locate the stolen delicacy.
Oysters are a staple on restaurant menus and buffets across Australia, and local varieties are renowned worldwide for their rich flavor. Police do not rule out that the stolen batch may have been illegally sold on the black market or supplied to eateries disguised as legitimate produce.
