In Baikonur, a criminal case involving the deliberate destruction of another person's property has been handed over to Kazakh law enforcement, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Baikonur complex prosecutor's office, the supervisory authority sent materials regarding a 46-year-old local resident to the city prosecutor's office to organize further investigation. The man is accused of a crime under Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — deliberate destruction or damage of another person's property by arson.
According to the investigation, in July of this year, a domestic conflict occurred between the accused and his wife. While in the courtyard of an apartment building, the man, out of a sense of resentment, set fire to a Chevrolet car, which was jointly owned by the spouses and had been purchased during their marriage. To carry out his criminal intent, he poured a flammable liquid inside the vehicle and set it on fire with matches.
These actions caused significant damage to the car, making it beyond repair. Since the property was jointly owned by the spouses, the man caused damage to his family exceeding 800,000 rubles, which amounts to 4.2 million tenge.
Because the person facing criminal liability is a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the criminal case has been transferred to Kazakh law enforcement agencies.
The Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides a maximum penalty for this crime of imprisonment for up to seven years. If the act caused especially large damage or death by negligence, the sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to ten years.
