Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, who was convicted of covering up the murder of Saltanat Nukenova, has been released early from prison. A court decision granted his release under an amnesty act, according to infohub.kz.
Baizhanov's lawyer, Gaziz Yntykbaev, said the court ordered his immediate release from the correctional facility, with just over three months remaining on his sentence.
Baizhanov was sentenced to four years in prison for covering up the crime. After the verdict took effect, he repeatedly petitioned the court for a reduced sentence. In 2024, he also sought application of the amnesty law.
The high-profile case involves the death of Saltanat Nukenova. Her husband, former Minister of National Economy Kuandyk Bishimbaev, was accused of her murder. He pleaded not guilty to intentional murder but was ultimately sentenced to 24 years in prison.
