Lawyer Gaziz Yntykbayev announced that Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, the cousin of Kuanysh Bishimbayev, will be released today and return to his family, reports infohub.kz.
Earlier today, social media circulated news that Baizhanov was being freed. A news agency correspondent contacted Yntykbayev, who represented Baizhanov in court, for confirmation. The lawyer verified the information.
“Today a court hearing was held, during which the court applied an amnesty act regarding Bakhytzhan Baizhanov and ordered his immediate release. The unserved portion of the sentence was just over three months. Today, Bakhytzhan returns to his family,” Yntykbayev stated.
The correspondent also asked whether Baizhanov had already been released. “Today the Stepnogorsk City Court is sending the judicial act to the penal institution. As soon as the institution receives the court ruling, Baizhanov must be released immediately,” Yntykbayev replied.
In early April, we reported that Baizhanov had again appealed to the court, seeking acquittal or a reduced sentence.
In May, a court hearing was held on Baizhanov’s case. The court upheld the original sentence and dismissed the cassation appeal.
Recall that for the murder and torture of Saltanat Nukenova, Kuanysh Bishimbayev was sentenced to 24 years in prison. The court also found Baizhanov guilty of concealment of a crime and sentenced him to 4 years in a medium-security facility. On June 26, 2024, an Astana court upheld the verdict.
However, in the summer of 2025, Baizhanov applied for amnesty. Later, it was reported that he was granted amnesty, reducing his remaining prison time.
