The Akmola Regional Court has clarified the reasons for the early release of Bakytzhan Baizhanov, the cousin of Kuanysh Bishimbayev, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the court's press service, the head of facility No.4 of the Penitentiary System Committee under Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry submitted a motion to reduce Baizhanov's remaining sentence. The convict and his lawyers requested the motion be granted, and the prosecutor also supported it.
Under the law, individuals convicted of grave or especially grave crimes who have no negative behavior record and who have no more than one year left to serve at the time of amnesty may have their remaining sentence reduced. Baizhanov committed a grave crime but had no negative record, and his remaining term was only 3 months and 18 days.
During the court hearing, the convict did not object to the amnesty. The court granted the motion, fully reducing the remaining sentence. Baizhanov has been released from prison, but the ruling has not yet taken legal effect.
Earlier, lawyer Gaziz Yntykbayev stated that Baizhanov would be freed and return to his family. The Penitentiary System Committee confirmed this, adding that he will be under probation supervision and administrative monitoring for six years.
