According to the press service of the Almaty Regional Court, police and fisheries inspectors detained citizens T. and P.S. on Lake Balkhash. They used boats with Yamaha-40 motors and 500 meters of synthetic nets.
“They illegally caught 261 kg of fish, causing significant damage to the state totaling 1.2 million tenge. In sentencing, the court considered mitigating circumstances such as full admission of guilt, sincere repentance by defendant T., and voluntary compensation of most of the damage (890,000 tenge),” the court said.
As a result, T. was found guilty and sentenced to 3 years of restricted freedom. He is banned from fishing for 3 years, placed under probation supervision, and required to perform 100 hours of forced labor annually.
The second defendant, P.S., was found to have been in a state of insanity at the time of the offense due to his mental condition and was therefore released from criminal liability. The court ordered outpatient observation and treatment by a doctor at his place of residence.
