A tragic incident occurred in New York's Times Square: Erin Piacenti, a vice president at Bank of America, died as a result of a knife attack. The attacker also wounded a tourist before being fatally shot by police, according to infohub.kz.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Piacenti was responsible for managing conflicts of interest at the bank. The NYPD said the incident happened the day before. The assailant was identified as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, who was armed with two knives. She first approached a 68-year-old tourist from Rhode Island at the intersection of West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue. The man, who was waiting with his wife for the light to change, was stabbed in the abdomen.
The injured tourist was hospitalized and is in stable condition. Cisneros then continued north on Seventh Avenue and about 20 seconds later delivered a fatal blow to Erin Piacenti near 42nd Street, said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
Police stopped the attacker between 42nd and 43rd Streets. For about four minutes, they tried to persuade her to drop her weapons, but without success. When Cisneros moved toward the officers, they used stun guns, but that had no effect. Two officers then opened fire, wounding the woman.
Cisneros was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. NYPD records show two prior incidents involving the attacker's mental health issues, in 2018 and 2019. The police commissioner stressed that investigators have no reason to classify the incident as a terrorist act.
