Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov said that the country's banks were not interested in creating a unified interbank QR code, reports infohub.kz.
According to him, each major bank wanted customers to use its own infrastructure. “Banks absolutely do not want a single QR. Each bank wants only its own infrastructure and ecosystem,” Suleimenov said.
The central bank head added that such a position is natural for business, as banks seek to retain customers within their own services. He emphasized that this is why the National Bank pushed for the creation of a unified QR.
In the end, he noted, large banks supported the launch of the system. Issues of tariffs and terms of use for the unified QR will be discussed as the project develops.
Earlier, it was reported that the National Bank intends to push for lower fees for the unified QR.
