Warner Bros. studio is facing difficulties in developing the sequel to the comedy 'Barbie.' Negotiations to sign contracts with lead actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, as well as director Greta Gerwig, have stalled due to the financial demands of the star team.
The disputes center on the actors' requests for higher salaries and a percentage of box office revenue. Specifically, Ryan Gosling is seeking $20 million for reprising his role as Ken. The talks are complicated by the fact that the actors did not originally sign agreements for sequels. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav deemed the agencies' proposed terms too generous.
The situation is exacerbated by a time constraint. The studio has until December 2026 to get the project into development, otherwise the exclusive film rights will revert to Mattel. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach have already conceived a plot, but they refuse to write the script until contracts are signed.
