Astana's Barys closed out a four-game road swing through Russia with a 4-1 victory over Dynamo Moscow. Kazakhstan's goaltender Andrei Shutov stopped 37 shots in the win, according to infohub.kz.

The first road trip of the 2026/27 Kontinental Hockey League season — through Tolyatti, Magnitogorsk, Yaroslavl and Moscow — went well overall for the Astana side. After losing to Metallurg, they beat Lada, Gagarin Cup holder Lokomotiv and Dynamo in style.

A curious pattern has emerged since the start of the regular season: when Barys scores first, they always win. Today's game at VTB Arena was no exception.

Second-pairing defenseman Samat Daniyar had a hand in each of the game's first three goals. Early in the second period, he and Dynamo's Sergei Zborovsky were sent off for a scuffle in front of Vladislav Podyapolsky's net. In the ensuing 4-on-4, Canadian Garrett Pilon opened the scoring at 1-0.

Five minutes later, Dynamo's Nikita Korostelyov converted a power play after a Daniyar penalty to make it 1-1. But six minutes after that, Daniyar set up Pilon again, and Garrett completed his double to put Barys back in front at 2-1.

The scoring lull lasted a dozen minutes of play before, in the third period, defenseman Jake Massey netted the third goal, backing up his fellow blueliner Daniyar, to make it 3-1.

Late in the game, the Blue and White threw everything at Shutov's net and pulled their goaltender for an extra skater. But they got nothing out of it. What's more, Barys' top scorer Justin Bailey found the empty net to make it 4-1.

With their fifth win of the season, Mikhail Kravets' men moved up to third place in the Eastern Conference.

The KHL regular season, which began on September 5, runs until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. At the end of the regular season, eight teams from each conference qualify for the Gagarin Cup playoffs.

After wrapping up their first road trip of the 2026/27 season, Barys will play two games in Astana.
