Kazakhstan's Barys cruised to a 6-0 rout of Lada of Tolyatti in their first road game of the 2026/27 Kontinental Hockey League season. The Astana side's top scorer, Justin Bailey, struck twice to extend his point streak to four games, giving the American 5 goals and 4 assists, infohub.kz reports.

The meeting in Tolyatti carried special significance for the Kazakhs. After emphatic wins over Sibir (7-1) and Salavat Yulaev (8-6), Mikhail Kravets's team unexpectedly stumbled against Amur (1-3). All of those games were played at Barys Arena.

Against Lada, the Astana side played away for the first time in the regular season and faced a Western Conference team for the first time. At the preseason Republic of Bashkortostan Cup, Barys beat the automakers 2-1. This time the scoreline was far more emphatic.

From the opening minutes the visitors held a clear advantage. Outshooting the hosts 10-1 on goal, the Kazakhs beat Nikita Podskrebalin just once. Shortly before the intermission, Jake Massie redirected Alikhan Omirbekov's shot into the net to make it 1-0.

The Kazakhs kept building their lead as the game wore on. Early in the second period, Justin Bailey's slap shot found the target. The 31-year-old forward of the San Diego Gulls, who has also played in the NHL for Buffalo, Philadelphia, Vancouver and San Jose, has recorded points in every game since joining Barys. His first goal against the Tolyatti side was his fourth in the KHL. He scored his fifth in the third period to make it 5-0.

Between Bailey's goals, Semyon Simonov and Ian McCoshen also found the net. Tyce Thompson rounded off the scoring on the power play. 6-0 — the Kazakhs' third win at the start of the season!

The KHL regular season, which began on September 5, runs until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. At the end of the regular season, eight teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl are the reigning Gagarin Cup holders, having beaten Ak Bars Kazan in six games in May's final series.

Barys will continue their first road trip of the 2026/27 season with games in Magnitogorsk, Yaroslavl and Moscow.
