Astana's Barys hockey club suffered a home defeat to Saint Petersburg's SKA in a Kontinental Hockey League regular-season game, the website infohub.kz reports.
The match in Astana ended in a 5-3 win for the visitors.
The game got off to a poor start for the Kazakh club. Already in the first period, SKA beat Hunter Shepard three times and went into the intermission with a comfortable lead.
In the second period, Barys tried to get back into the game. Vsevolod Logvin scored the hosts' first goal, but the Petersburg team soon restored its lead. After another goal was conceded, the Astana coaching staff pulled the goaltender, sending Andrei Shutov onto the ice in place of Shepard.
SKA managed to score a fifth goal, after which Logvin found the net for a second time for Barys, completing a double. Before the end of the game, the hosts managed to cut the deficit by one more goal, but they could not save the match — 3-5.
Barys will play its next KHL regular-season game on the road. On September 30, the Astana club will face Ak Bars in Kazan.
