Astana hockey club Barys suffered its second defeat at the pre-season Puchkov Memorial tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia, reports infohub.kz.
The match ended 1:2 in favor of the opponent. Regulation time ended in a tie, and the winner was determined in a shootout, where SKA VMF was more accurate. Vladislav Nurek guarded the Kazakh team's goal in the shootout.
The first period was scoreless. In the second frame, the Kazakh players opened the scoring: Kirill Panyukov was close to a goal but hit the crossbar. Later, Barys got a power play, which Kirill Lyapunov converted, scoring on a rebound after a shot by Tais Thompson.
Before the second intermission, the St. Petersburg team tied the game. The Astana side took several penalties, and Nikita Suraev capitalized on the man advantage.
For Mikhail Kravets' charges, this was their second loss at the tournament. Barys will play its next match on August 30 against Admiral. The game starts at 16:00.
