Astana's Barys suffered a defeat to Magnitogorsk's Metallurg in a road game of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) regular season. The meeting in Magnitogorsk ended with a 3-0 victory for the hosts, reports infohub.kz.

The outcome was largely decided in the first period. Metallurg players managed to score three times against the Astana team within seven minutes.

After the third goal, scored by Kazakhstan national team forward Nikita Mikhailis, Barys head coach Mikhail Kravets decided to replace goaltender Hunter Shepard. Andrei Shutov took his place on the ice.

In the second and third periods, the Kazakh club failed to cut the deficit. The hosts also did not score again, maintaining their three-goal lead until the final buzzer.

Thus, Barys suffered a shutout defeat with a score of 0-3.

The Astana team's next match will be on September 20 in Yaroslavl against the local Lokomotiv. The game is scheduled to start at 19:00.
