The Bashkir ethno-pop group Ay Yola performed a concert at the North Pole, proving that music knows no distances and culture has no borders, reports infohub.kz.
The band members, known for their hit Homay, shared their impressions of the unusual performance. "The northernmost concert in the group's history took place at 90 degrees north latitude. A place where you can walk around the Earth in just a few seconds. Around us only ice and sky. Underfoot is a drifting ice floe just a few meters thick, and beneath it more than four kilometers of the Arctic Ocean. And here the music of AY YOLA sounded. Songs in the Bashkir language, inspired by the epic 'Ural-Batyr', reached the northernmost point of the planet. Under Homay and our other songs, participants from 22 countries joined hands and spun in the northernmost international round dance, held in honor of the Year of Unity of Peoples of Russia as part of the seventh international Arctic expedition 'Icebreaker of Knowledge' by Rosatom," they noted.
The musicians will continue their participation in the international Arctic expedition. "The next point on our route is Franz Josef Land," they said.
Band member Rinat Ramazanov admitted that the performance was unforgettable. "Performing on a huge ice floe with the ocean beneath is truly impressive," he noted.
