Ivan Berdyugin, a resident of Ridder who survived a bear attack, has shared new details about the incident that occurred on July 29, reports infohub.kz.
The 58-year-old man said that on that evening, the three of them went to search for cows that had run out of the forest, fleeing from the predator. "I let my guard down and decided to scare it away. The bear immediately turned its attention to me and ran in my direction. It all happened very fast; it attacked. The bear was small, about two years old. Good thing my two comrades were with me; they didn't leave me in trouble and charged at the bear with sticks and whatever they could grab. That's how I survived," the victim shared.
As reported earlier, the incident occurred near a recreation area close to the West Altai State Nature Reserve in the East Kazakhstan Region. The two men who were with the victim helped him fight off the animal, and the bear ran away, which saved the man's life.
However, the man spent several days in intensive care and then in the trauma department. According to the Ridder City Hospital, the patient had multiple extensive wounds on his head, arms, and legs, including open fractures of an arm and a leg with displacement. He was discharged on August 19.
