Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has ordered measures to prevent shortages or price hikes for socially important vegetables during the off-season, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the government's press service, vegetable reserves will be built up in Kazakhstan's regions for the winter and spring periods. The government will step up efforts to build up stocks of vegetable products for the winter and spring periods.
"Building up reserves of vegetables, especially potatoes, for the winter and spring periods remains a priority. Already during the harvest campaign, it is important to contract the required volumes in a timely manner and to organize their purchase and storage. Regional akimats should keep this issue under control and prevent shortages or price hikes for socially important vegetable products in the off-season. At the same time, surplus products should be directed toward exports. The Ministries of Trade and Transport should assist farmers in finding markets and selling their produce," the head of government ordered.
