Inflation in Kazakhstan fell to 9.8% in August, but motor fuel prices are rising significantly faster than the overall price level. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, AI-92 gasoline has risen 12.3% over the year to an average of 244 tenge per liter, while AI-95 has added 15.4% to reach 314 tenge per liter, infohub.kz reports.
In August, AI-92 gasoline added 0.3% in price, while AI-95 did not change at all over the month. At the same time, the annual increase in the cost of the "ninety-fifth" was more pronounced than that of the "ninety-second."
The most expensive AI-92 gasoline is sold in Almaty and Taldykorgan — an average of 249 tenge per liter. The lowest price was recorded in Atyrau — 228 tenge. In Astana, a liter of AI-92 costs an average of 245 tenge, in Shymkent — 232 tenge.
For AI-95, the maximum average price was recorded in Almaty — 324 tenge per liter. In Astana it was 314 tenge, in Shymkent — 306 tenge. The cheapest place to fill up with "ninety-fifth" is Aktobe — 291 tenge per liter.
In addition to the popular grades, AI-98 gasoline is also in demand in Kazakhstan, although it is not available in all cities. In August it rose 0.2% in price, and over the year — 13.2%, to an average of 340 tenge per liter. The highest prices for AI-98 were recorded in Taldykorgan — 363 tenge per liter, the lowest — in Semey, 331 tenge. In Almaty, a liter of AI-98 costs 362 tenge, in Astana — 355 tenge, in Shymkent — 350 tenge.
Summer diesel fuel rose 0.2% in August over the month, while the annual increase was 9.4%. A liter of diesel now sells for an average of 341 tenge. It is most expensive for residents of Almaty and Taldykorgan — 345 tenge per liter, and cheapest in Atyrau and Kostanay, at 331 tenge. In Astana the average price was 335 tenge, in Shymkent — 337 tenge.
Note that motor fuel prices can differ not only by city but also by specific gas station. Earlier, drivers complained about the quality of gasoline in Kazakhstan, after which an inspection was conducted. In addition, an expert explained whether the warranty on new cars would cover damage from poor-quality fuel.
