A van plowed at high speed into a crowd of participants at the Christopher Street Day (CSD) LGBT parade in central Berlin on the evening of July 25, killing one person and injuring 17 others, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred in Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate. According to police, the vehicle hit pedestrians before colliding with a tree. When emergency services arrived, the van was empty.
Eight people suffered serious injuries, and three are in critical condition.
According to Bild, citing witnesses, a man ran from the vehicle and fled. Police launched a large-scale manhunt. The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Abdul B., believed to have ties to Islamist circles. He remains at large, and the search continues. After the incident, specialists examined the vehicle for explosives, but no discovery has been reported.
On the day of the tragedy, Berlin was hosting the annual Christopher Street Day, one of Europe's largest LGBT parades, drawing hundreds of thousands of participants. After the attack, all festive events were immediately halted.
Investigators are treating the incident as a possible deliberate attack. The circumstances are still being determined.
In recent years, Germany has faced similar attacks. In May 2026, a driver plowed into a pedestrian zone in Leipzig, killing two. In 2025, similar assaults occurred in Mannheim and Munich, and in December 2024, several people were killed in a vehicle attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg.
