Construction of the Bakerton plant, which will produce long-life donuts and baked goods, has been completed in Petropavlovsk. The construction and engineering portion of the project was carried out by BI-Industrial, part of BI Group, and the production building covers about 17,000 square meters, according to infohub.kz.
The facility is located within the Qyzyljar special economic zone. The plant's design capacity is about 13,000 tonnes of products per year, and it is expected to create around 380 permanent jobs.
During construction, the BI-Industrial team built the main production building, installed internal and external engineering systems and necessary connections, developed supporting infrastructure and landscaped the area. Company specialists also carried out a full set of commissioning works for the building's engineering systems.
In total, about 4,300 cubic meters of concrete work were performed and around 1,950 tonnes of metal structures were installed. At peak, up to 218 specialists worked simultaneously on site.
One of the project's main features was the heightened requirements for food production premises. The builders were tasked not just with creating a warm and airtight building, but with establishing a controlled production environment in which architectural and engineering solutions help maintain the necessary sanitary regime.
For example, sandwich panels in production areas were installed vertically to reduce the number of horizontal joints and surfaces where dust can accumulate. Where walls meet the floor, smooth radius transitions were used instead of standard corners, allowing for more effective sanitary treatment of the premises.
Particular attention was paid to the airtightness of the internal contour. Joints, abutments and ceiling panels were additionally sealed to maintain stable temperature conditions for the technological process. In production areas, open metal structures, protruding elements and other hard-to-clean zones were also eliminated as much as possible.
"In food production, construction quality is directly linked to the future technological process. Decisions down to individual joints and abutments matter here. Therefore, our task was not just to build a production building, but to create a fully ready engineering environment for the installation and launch of the client's technology," said Gabiden Yensebayev, project manager at BI-Industrial.
Work at the site was carried out in stages. Initially, BI-Industrial was responsible for building the main building envelope. Later, the company's scope was expanded to include internal and external engineering systems, connections, infrastructure and landscaping.
To coordinate structures and engineering utilities, the team used 3D modeling, which allowed technical solutions to be worked out in advance and various systems to be aligned before the corresponding work was performed on site.
Process equipment for the production lines was purchased by the client and installed by specialized suppliers. BI-Industrial, for its part, ensured the construction and engineering readiness of the facility for the integration of production equipment and the subsequent launch of the plant.
The Bakerton project has added to BI-Industrial's portfolio of industrial facilities.
