Kazakhstani chess player Bibisara Assaubayeva won silver at the blitz tournament of the WR Women's Chess Tour 2026 in Saint-Tropez, reports infohub.kz.
At the competition in France, the grandmaster eliminated Ukrainian Maria Muzychuk in an Armageddon game, and then defeated German Elisabeth Pähtz.
Thanks to these results, Assaubayeva reached the final, where she faced another Ukrainian, Anna Muzychuk. The decisive match ended in a defeat for the Kazakhstani player with a score of 1.5:2.5.
Thus, Assaubayeva won silver. The day before, she became the champion of the rapid tournament, meaning the chess player almost achieved a "golden double" in Saint-Tropez.
"Thanks to these results, I managed to qualify for the final, which will be held in November this year in Germany. I flew to the tournament almost directly from the USA after the Cairns Cup, so the last weeks have been very busy - lots of chess, flights and emotions," Assaubayeva shared on her Instagram.
At the Cairns Cup in the USA, the Kazakhstani chess player won a bronze medal.
