The Criminal Appeals Panel of the Almaty City Court has upheld the verdict in the high-profile case of embezzlement of over 1 billion tenge from Air Astana JSC and money laundering, reports the website infohub.kz.
The scheme's organizer was sentenced to 9 years in prison, and two accomplices received 8 years and 6 months each. All convicts were also ordered to forfeit property and are banned from holding positions in commercial organizations for 5 years.
The court granted the victim's civil lawsuit for more than 1 billion tenge. Confiscated property will be used to compensate the damages.
The appellate court, after reviewing the defense's arguments, left the sentence unchanged and dismissed the appeals.
