A powerful explosion near a police station in Pakistan's Swat district killed at least 14 people, including police officers, and wounded 18 others, according to the website infohub.kz.
The incident occurred at the gate of the Kabal police station in Swat, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Police said the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber. At the time of the attack, a peaceful rally was taking place at the nearby Kabal Chowk square, where hundreds of local residents had gathered to protest the recent escalation of terrorism in the Swat Valley.
According to the Dawn newspaper, citing a police statement, some of the dead were law enforcement personnel. The death toll may rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition.
Footage from the scene circulated on social media, showing the extent of the destruction and the arrival of rescue services. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
