Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has approved the use of British military bases by the United States for strikes on Iran, as reported by NUR.KZ citing RBK, via infohub.kz.
The decision was made after a meeting held by the previous prime minister, Keir Starmer.
At the meeting, ministers agreed to maintain the existing policy allowing the US to use the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean and RAF Fairford in England for operations against Iranian missile threats and targets linked to threats to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Burnham, who took office this week, was briefed on the discussion and supported the decision.
The publication emphasizes that London considers these bases as defensive.
It is expected that the British bases will now likely be involved in the current phase of the US military operation against Iran.
