A resident of Astana has lost his driving privileges for one year and served five days under administrative arrest after police discovered a device on his BMW designed to conceal the state registration plate, infohub.kz reports.

According to the capital's police department, the incident occurred around 10:20 on Alash Avenue. Police officers stopped a BMW for a check. During the inspection, it was established that the vehicle was equipped with a special device allowing the state registration plate to be hidden.

"The use of such devices complicates vehicle identification, the detection of offenses, and control over compliance with traffic rules," the department's statement said.

An administrative protocol was drawn up against the 38-year-old driver under Part 4 of Article 590 of the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offenses.

"By a ruling of the specialized inter-district court on administrative offenses of the city of Astana, the driver has been deprived of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 1 year and subjected to administrative arrest for a period of 5 days," the police added.

The capital's police urge drivers to strictly observe traffic rules and legal requirements when operating vehicles.
