Rescuers have found the body of British-Nepali climber Nirmal Purja on Broad Peak in Pakistan after an avalanche, according to infohub.kz.
The body of the renowned climber was discovered at an altitude of about 5,700 meters. The Alpine Club of Pakistan confirmed the information. According to the organization, rescuers also spotted three more bodies, whose identities have not yet been established. The remains are planned to be transported to the Japanese base camp.
Earlier, Pakistani authorities confirmed the discovery of the bodies of three other expedition members: American Mallory Gays, Omani citizen Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy, and Nepali climber Pura Bahadur Gurung.
Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah expressed condolences: "The tragic deaths of six Nepali and four foreign climbers, including world record holder Nirmal Purja, have shocked us. Their story of courage and dedication will always inspire."
Purja gained worldwide fame in 2019 by climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in just 189 days. His story later became the basis for the Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible."
Earlier it was reported that an international group of climbers went missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak. The group was led by famous blogger Nirmal Purja.
