Petropavlovsk boxer Damir Alkeshev, known as 'The Executioner,' had his sentence increased on appeal. Instead of community service, he was sentenced to three years and six months in prison, according to infohub.kz.
Alkeshev was charged after a conflict at a restaurant-bar where he worked as a security guard. He faced multiple charges including hooliganism and assault. The case began in November last year when police reported that the guard, a boxer, beat a visitor. A criminal case was opened. In May of this year, a court sentenced Alkeshev to 200 hours of community service. Since the punishment was considered already served, he was released from custody in the courtroom. The prosecution disagreed and appealed. The appeal panel determined that the incidents were not isolated conflicts with visitors but systematic violence. Assault against a woman in one episode was deemed committed out of hooligan motives. Attacks on two men were classified as repeated hooliganism with violence. The original sentence was overturned. Alkeshev was sentenced to three years and six months in a medium-security facility and taken into custody in the courtroom.
