Ian Paton, 65, of the United Kingdom has grown a giant pumpkin weighing nearly 1.3 tons, setting a new Guinness World Record, according to infohub.kz.
The new Guinness World Record was confirmed at a giant vegetable weigh-off in Berkshire. The pumpkin came in almost 17 kg heavier than the previous record-holder, which Paton grew last year with his twin brother, Stuart. The giant pumpkin's weight is comparable to that of a hippopotamus, and its circumference exceeded six meters.
The gardener spent up to six hours a day tending the plant and used about 500 liters of water daily. During its most active growth phase, the pumpkin gained up to 20 kg per day. This year, Paton grew the giant vegetable on his own for the first time, as his brother decided to retire after fifty years of their shared hobby.
The record-breaking vegetable was put on display at a farm in Hampshire, and after the exhibition ends it will be given as livestock feed. The farmer has already collected more than 2,600 seeds and plans to grow a pumpkin weighing over 1.36 tons.
