A British man has been reunited with his parrot named Nigel, which was stolen nine years ago and later found on the street, reports infohub.kz.

The man had lost hope of ever seeing his beloved pet again when he unexpectedly received a call from a veterinary clinic. It turned out that a local resident had brought the bird in after finding it on the street. Specialists were able to identify the rightful owner thanks to a microchip implanted in the bird.

Over the years of separation, the African grey parrot had changed somewhat. According to the owner, the feathered pet had forgotten its former British accent and learned to speak Spanish. In addition, the bird had started regularly repeating the name of another person it had become accustomed to during its absence.

Despite the changes that occurred over nearly a decade, the parrot immediately recognized its former owner. The reunion was extremely emotional for the owner, who no longer expected to see the bird alive. Currently, the feathered pet is adapting to life back at home.
