The rutting season has begun for deer in Burabay National Park, and the press service of the institution has warned tourists that the animals' behavior changes noticeably during this time, reports infohub.kz.
According to the park's press service, during the rut males emit a prolonged loud roar that can be frightening in itself. This is how the animals attract females and warn off rivals. During this period, males gather a "harem" around themselves and may engage in fights with competitors, though often it is limited to displays of strength.
After the mating season ends, these temporary groups break up, but during the rut males become aggressive.
"If you encounter deer, you should not approach them, try to feed them, or get closer for a photo. Upon seeing an animal, it is necessary to keep your distance, avoid making noise, and give it the opportunity to calmly walk away," the press service added.
Drivers are also asked to be more careful, as deer may suddenly run onto the roadway.
Burabay is home to 1,383 Askanian deer, of which 263 are males.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that surveillance cameras had been installed on popular routes in Burabay.
