Burnley manager Scott Parker has provided an update on the condition of Kazakhstani forward Dastan Satpayev following the team's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough in the Championship. According to the coach, the player felt discomfort at the end of the match, but it is believed to be a cramp rather than a serious injury, reports infohub.kz.
The 18-year-old Satpayev started his third consecutive match for Burnley and was substituted in the 81st minute. As he left the pitch, the Kazakhstani was holding the back of his thigh. The Turf Moor crowd gave him a standing ovation, and after the match Satpayev was named the man of the match.
After the game, Parker said that the medical staff will further assess Dastan's condition.
"We'll need to have a look at him. It looks like he just got a cramp. He had a good game. I'm really pleased for him, and it's great that an 18-year-old is setting an example for the rest of the squad," Parker said in an interview with Sports24.kz.
The Burnley boss also highlighted the Kazakhstani's commitment. According to him, the young forward has already earned respect within the team thanks to his work ethic and behavior off the pitch.
"Overall, Dastan showed great desire, was actively involved in the game, and created several dangerous chances. Everyone in the team respects him, and he's so humble... He's just a very nice, friendly lad. He works hard and tries to make a difference on the pitch," Parker noted.
Parker also touched on the physical demands Satpayev has faced since moving to England. He emphasized the toughness of the Championship and admitted that the coaching staff is trying to manage the 18-year-old carefully.
"Yes, he is adapting. But you know, in England it's a tough, physical league, so we're also trying to protect him. It doesn't always work out."
According to Parker, there are currently no signs of a serious injury for Satpayev, but a final assessment will be made after further evaluation.
"He has a slight issue, it's a cramp, but we hope it won't be anything serious. Nobody wants a long-term injury. You see he's playing 90 minutes, which is tough even for experienced players, let alone a young lad."
Recall that Burnley and Middlesbrough drew 1-1. After Aidan Morris's goal in the first half, the hosts equalized through Hugo Raguber in the 54th minute. After four rounds, Parker's side have two points and sit 23rd in the Championship.
