Chinese automaker BYD has launched a new sedan, the Qin Max, which is almost identical to the recently updated Seal 06. Both cars share similar technical specifications, dimensions, and powertrains, but will be sold under different series — Dynasty and Ocean, according to CarNewsChina.
The Qin Max is available in China in nine trim levels, with the DM-i hybrid system and a fully electric version. Prices range from 100,000 to 144,000 yuan, which is about 7.2–10.4 million tenge.
For comparison, the BYD Seal 06 2027 hit the market just two days earlier and is offered in roughly the same price range. Thus, the manufacturer has effectively created a situation where two of its own models will compete for the same customer.
The BYD Qin Max and Seal 06 are built on the same technical base. The sedans have the same wheelbase of 2820 mm; the length differs by only 4 mm, and the width by 10 mm; identical DM-i and EV versions; identical electric motor power options — 120 and 240 kW; identical EV range of 530 and 630 km on the CLTC cycle; second-generation Blade battery in electric versions; fast charging; DiSus-C, DiLink 150, AR-HUD systems, and a built-in refrigerator.
As a result, BYD has pitted two nearly identical models against each other within its own lineup, leaving the buyer to choose primarily between the exterior, interior design, and trim-level equipment.
