A road accident in the Mangystau Region has claimed the lives of four people. A criminal case has been opened into the incident, according to infohub.kz.

The press service of the Mangystau Region Police Department said the tragedy occurred on September 16 at around 20:30 on the Aktau–Beyneu national highway. Two Toyota Camry cars were involved in the crash.

"According to preliminary data, the driver of a Toyota Camry traveling from the village of Zhetibay toward the village of Shetpe struck a camel that was on the roadway. After the collision, the car veered into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Toyota Camry traveling in the opposite direction," the Mangystau Region Police Department said.

As a result of the crash, four people died at the scene from their injuries. Four others with various injuries were taken to a medical facility.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The vehicles have been placed in a specialized impound lot. The necessary examinations have been ordered.

The investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of the incident are being established, including the owner of the animal.
