Starting August 25, new rules for e-scooter users came into force in Kazakhstan, banning travel on sidewalks and pedestrian paths. In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs addressed the country's citizens, reports infohub.kz.
The ministry explained that the tightened requirements are driven by concern for pedestrian safety. This issue has been repeatedly raised by the public, especially given the risks to children, the elderly, and parents with strollers.
Statistics confirm the need for increased control: since the beginning of the year, Kazakhstan has recorded 139 traffic accidents involving e-scooters, in which two people died.
At the same time, the Ministry stressed that e-scooters themselves are not banned — now their places and rules of movement are clearly defined.
Compliance with the new rules will be monitored nationwide. In addition to police officers, violations will be recorded using CCTV cameras, technical means, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
In major cities, mobile police units on e-scooters are already operating, capable of promptly responding to violations directly in areas where users move.
The ministry warned: do not count on a violation going unnoticed if there is no police officer nearby.
The new requirements also apply to kick-scooter operators. All companies have been notified of the changes and bear the responsibility provided by law.
"Our main task is to ensure that the new rules actually work: so that pedestrians feel safe on sidewalks, and the number of accidents involving e-scooters is minimized," the Ministry noted.
The ministry emphasized that the new rules take into account the public's demand for safety. Now it is important that all road users comply with them, and the police will ensure the necessary control.
