Cameroon's women's team defeated tournament debutant Malawi 3-0 in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday to claim their first title in the competition, reports infohub.kz.
Marie Ngah Manga scored two headers, while Naomi Eto added another goal. Cameroon kept Malawi's Chawinga sisters in check to secure their first victory in the final at the fourth attempt. Previously, they had lost three finals, all to ten-time champions Nigeria.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe attended the match.
Malawi started brightly, but after Ngah Manga headed in from close range in the 21st minute, Eto doubled the lead in the 29th minute. Samuel Eto'o, now president of the Cameroon Football Federation, celebrated enthusiastically in the stands. He was also involved in the first goal, forcing a save from Malawi goalkeeper Mercy Sikelo.
Malawi failed to respond, and Ngah Manga scored her second goal on a counter-attack, her fifth of the tournament. Cameroon players ran onto the field to celebrate together.
After the break, the Chawinga sisters increased Malawi's activity. Tabitha Chawinga felt she deserved a penalty, but a VAR check ruled otherwise. She then drew a good save from Michaely Bihina, and her sister Temwa went close from the rebound.
