The death toll from a gold mine collapse in Cameroon has reached 107, with rescue operations ongoing, according to infohub.kz.
The tragedy occurred at a gold mining site in the eastern town of Zamboua. According to RIA Novosti, citing RFI radio, more than 100 bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
As of 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, the death toll stood at 107, said Amadou Abdone, mayor of Garoua-Boulai. He clarified that this number represents bodies already recovered.
The search operation continues, and the death toll may rise. Zamboua is located near Cameroon's border with the Central African Republic.
