A man in Almaty was arrested for five days after a conflict with a foreign woman near an establishment on Abylai Khan Avenue. He used obscene language towards the woman, and it later turned out that the man is a Canadian citizen, reports infohub.kz.

The video of the conflict was published by the Telegram channel "Criminal Kazakhstan." In the footage, the woman is recording the incident on her phone, while the man, sitting at a neighboring table, swears at her.

According to the foreigner, he insulted her several times. The woman claims that the conflict began after she told the man that she works for the UN.

After the video spread, the police became interested in the situation. Law enforcement identified the man, and it turned out that he does not have Kazakhstani citizenship.

"As it turned out, he is not a citizen of Kazakhstan — the offender turned out to be a Canadian citizen. Regardless of citizenship and status, the requirements of the law on the territory of Kazakhstan are the same for everyone," the Almaty police department commented.

An administrative case was opened against the man for petty hooliganism. The court sentenced him to five days of administrative arrest.

"Kazakhstan's hospitality does not mean permissiveness. Everyone who is on the territory of our country must respect the law and those around them," the police emphasized.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed introducing paid electronic entry permits for foreigners and stateless persons. The draft resolution was posted on the "Open NPA" portal. The ministry expects that the new system will allow faster and more transparent tracking of migrants' movements across Kazakhstan.
