Mexican boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez captured the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title by defeating France's Christian Mbilli in the main event of a card in Riyadh, infohub.kz reports.

The bout headlined the show in the Saudi capital. It was Mbilli's first defense of the WBC super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) title. The belt passed to the Frenchman after Terence Crawford retired: the American became undisputed world champion in September 2025 by beating none other than "Canelo."

The fight in Riyadh went the full 12 rounds. In the eighth round, Mbilli was docked a point for a punch to the back of the head.

Alvarez ultimately won by unanimous decision — 116:111, 117:110, 115:112 — and reclaimed the WBC super middleweight belt. In the professional ring, the 36-year-old Mexican has 64 wins (39 by knockout), three losses and two draws.

The 31-year-old Mbilli lost for the first time in his career. His record now stands at 29 wins (24 by knockout) and one draw.
