In Karaganda, a young man's attempt to flee from police ended in a bizarre twist when he abandoned a car but left his mobile phone inside, which led officers straight to him, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred during a night patrol. Police noticed a car whose driver, upon seeing the patrol vehicle, sharply accelerated and tried to evade pursuit. Despite repeated orders to stop, the offender continued to speed up. However, he didn't get far: in the courtyard of a house, he got stuck after failing to clear a high curb.
After that, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving his phone in the cabin. Initially, officers used the license plate to identify the car's owner and went to his home. It turned out that someone else was driving, and the owner had no idea his car had ended up on the other side of the settlement.
The decisive clue was the forgotten phone. Using its number, police identified the suspect and detained a 20-year-old resident of Karaganda. The young man explained that he wanted to get home but panicked at the sight of police and decided to run. A pre-trial investigation has been launched.
