According to the Indian Coast Guard, rescuers have found no trace of the 22 missing crew members of a Panama-flagged cargo ship that sank in the Bay of Bengal earlier this week. The search continues, as reported by infohub.kz.
On Tuesday, search aircraft and vessels were scouring the area where the MV Ocean Winner reportedly sank on Saturday, approximately 276 miles (444 kilometers) off the Paradip coast in India's eastern Odisha state. The joint search by the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy has been complicated by the exceptionally deep waters in the region. So far, only an oil slick and two life rafts have been found near the vessel's last known position.
The lack of wreckage has hampered efforts to determine the cause of the sinking and to focus search operations. According to the coast guard, the vessel was carrying 24 crew members, including 20 Chinese nationals, three Myanmar nationals, and one Bangladeshi national. Two Chinese crew members were rescued on Saturday following a distress call from the ship.
